A teenage boy was discovered deceased only a few days following being wrongly blamed of taking the cremated remains of a dead infant during a break-in, an inquest has learned.
Kai Lloyd's parents found his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.
The inquest learned how his parent received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if her son was her offspring. The message stated: "Inform him appreciation for burgling my flat."
In a statement presented to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the news, claiming her infant's ashes had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.
An official inquiry from police later determined the supposed break-in victim had "provided false information" and "it now appears that the property was not taken in the first place".
News coverage about the alleged taken remains generated social media comments, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his mother said people "understood it was him".
The "online posts were really upsetting", she stated.
She added that her son had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other individuals' opinions really mattered to him.
"It would have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".
Kai was arrested at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later released pending further inquiry.
Police said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had not contacted the family by the time of his death.
His mother said her son "became isolated" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could feel like much longer".
When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her son told her he had gone into the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he needed, but denied removing anything.
In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied digitally after the accusations.
The inquest heard that a young adult encouraged Kai to end his life.
She had no concerns on the night before he died, explaining how she had heard him "chuckling and teasing".
She portrayed him as a "caring, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".
He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".
The inquest received testimony from educational staff at Connah's Quay secondary school.
On 8 November, she "heard some students discussing that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I learned".
"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.
After the conversation, the educator said she called the family's family landline and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.
The proceedings learned his parents said they never receive that communication.
Lead coroner informed the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.
Delivering a descriptive finding, he said: "Around 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young individual.
"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.
"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and following his interview he was freed whilst inquiries proceeded."
The coroner concluded: "Exists no proof that the actions or omissions of any organization caused or added to his passing and although it was the result of a personal act it is not possible to discern his purpose."
